A poem, and a recipe.

Pop them in the oven for ten minutes, and they’re done. Requires no kneading. Just the job for heavy-handed me. I found it on a website, but I can’t recall which one. Lighter than your usual scone but cakier than a bun. Delicious when they’re spread with jam and clotted cream for tea. You pop them in the oven for ten minutes, and they’re done. Measured in cups – American – but that’s no cause to shun this featherlight, melt-in-the-mouth and fool-proof recipe. I found it on a website, though I can’t recall which one. (First find your fool…) Vary with dried fruit, or with cheese. Have fun! Use soda water for the cheese scones; those are so-o tasty. Just pop them in the oven for ten minutes, and they’re done. To three cups of self-raising flour, add one of cream, and one of lemonade. Mix with a knife. Shape and divide. Easy! Then pop in a hot oven for ten minutes, and they’re done. I found them on a website, but I don’t recall which one

A villanelle (in case you were wondering)
Add dried fruit or cherries or cheese for however you prefer your scones .

I have only written one villanelle. I love that you managed to sneak a recipe into one.

(For us Europeans, I’m using roughly 200ml as a cup measure, but it’s hard to decide if the surface of my flour is level.) We’re not used to cup-type measurements in the UK, and even with this recipe I’ve sometimes made them too wet. Then they crumble when spread with jam (jelly to you…).

Let me edumacate you. We have jam here, too.
I prefer it over jelly. Always have. Jelly literally makes me physically ill. Jelly is disgusting!
When I was a child I loved jam with cream cheese on toast. Mmmmmm…….

I didn’t realise that. I hear of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and think ‘jam’. (and ‘yuck’!)

Believe it or not, we’re very civilized here in the states! 🤣
Peanut butter and jelly are a delicacy primarily for children. Some adults (gasp!😱) will lower their standards. I know. I can’t even believe it myself…
I’ve always thought of Jam as being upper class; uppercrust, and jelly as being for the commoners.
My favorite is strawberry jam and then raspberry jam.
Just to let you know, here in the states, we even have – you might want to sit down for this – indoor plumbing! We wear clothes too!
I love playing with you…..
