I have been away from my laptop for a few days, with my family in a beautiful Grade II listed building. The weekend was organised by one of my daughters who insisted we should be celebrating my birthday this year.

This amazing cake was made by one of my nieces. It seemed a shame to cut it… but I can assure you it tasted as good as it looked.

I appreciated only having a single candle to blow out. Personally, I stopped counting a couple of decades ago.
I don’t expect to be writing much until after Christmas, although I may share a Christmas story (one I made earlier). I will, however, post a shameless ad for my new book of short stories, once I have a copy in my hand to check it out.

Made me feel all christmassy

My birthday is actually 1st December but my daughter wasn’t back from New Zealand till 7th. We always used to buy our Christmas tree on my birthday and Christmas sort of started from there. This weekend, My sister and nieces and their children were staying nearby, so it was like a two-day Christmas from our past.

I’ve just realised whose log this is… I didn’t think you still monitored it?

Great cake! What a talented niece. Celebrating is good any time. A date is just a number. And a number is a fairly abstract concept. Glad you had such a lovely family time.

But you’re Anonymous – how would I know (any relation to Danger Mouse?) It is actually live now on Amazon in print and e-book, but I’m waiting to see a copy (today?) before I put in my Christmas order. Otherwise everyone will get it, glitches and all. I daren’t leave it later than today to order.

I hope that you daughter is doing all right. I am looking forward to the days starting to get longer in a few days. I really can’t stand the very dark days of December(despite their alliterative sound.)

My youngest has left the sunshine of New Zealand’s summer to join us for Christmas. Her version of “reduced energy” puts my average week to shame.

Our energy is passed on along to our children it seems.

Never too late – birthdays should last a week at least (this one is lasting for several…)
